Due to strict censorship laws
there’s no local version of Playboy magazine in India. To make up for the
absence signature bunnies will start serving drinks at the first Playboy club
to open in the country next month.
An Indian firm with rights to the
Playboy brand, PB Lifestyle, will launch the club in Goa in December. It will
be the first of 120 clubs, hotels, cafes and shops expected to open in the next
ten years, AFP reported.
Chief executive of PB Lifestyle,
Sanjay Gupta, explained, however, that the trademark skimpy bunny outfit with a
rabbit tail and ears would be revamped to suit India's conservative values. No
nudity will be on display, he warned.
"For the obvious reasons of
Indian morality and sensibilities, we can't follow the traditional costumes
that Playboy bunnies are associated with," Gupta told AFP.
The new outfits will be shown when
the club opens its 2,050 square metre premises on Candolim beach in north Goa.
Earlier this year Bollywood
starlet Sherlyn Chopra became the first Indian woman to pose naked for Playboy
magazine. The 28-year-old wrote to
Playboy and expressed an interest
in posing for the legendary magazine. She said she only had “feelings of pure
liberation and sheer excitement” about her groundbreaking decision.
