Minister’s son in law acquires 300 acres for a National park


The famous Wilpattu park is affiliated to Wirakkaduwall  and Elewankulama National parks and the proposed Thumbowa National park. A another proposed National park named HVA Farms Pvt Ltd has been as encroached as another National park in an area around 300 acres. It is supposed that a son in law of a Minister in involved in it.

Presently this area is been flattened with heavy machinery like Backho’s. This area has a lot of precious in the likes of Ebony, Satin wood and many other types of expensive trees. When this area is cleared they have blocked for the passage of Elephants found in abundance to travel across this area which they had got so used to.

The area it seems to be cleared of the valuable tress that is causing damage to the forest environment which is against the principles’ of the World heritage protection laws. This in other words is basic flouting of the rigid laws. They have initially built a proper road way.The area is developing unlike a human clash.

The Wirakkaduwall and Elewankulama National parks are in the Puttalam district close to the proposed Rakshithalya Thumbowa and Ralmaduwas are National parks that had been carried as unauthorised national parks in an extent of 35 acres forest area for a number of years. n order to preserve this forest area 225 acres of forest area had been under the purview of the forest conservation authority. It is known that a further 75 acres have been under the forest department.
